Anime Boston 2008
Well the week end of March 21-23 was Anime Boston 08. Now for those who don’t know, Anime Boston is the only convention in the Boston area dedicated specifically to anime. Hence it’s name. Now it’s a 3 day event if u dint catch that. So that’s how I am going to describe it. By day. Links will be at the end.
Day 1 Friday: Well the first thing that stood out was the fact that the line for registration was ridiculously long. The pre-registration line was also long but it moved much faster. Now there is also the fact that on the previous day any one that pre-registered could have gone and did the registration then. Now my total time in the line was about 2 hours to two and a half. Now that may seem like allot but compared to the registration line it was nothing. To better understand what I am talking about let me give u an example. My friend Rich (nick name) whom did not pre-register was in line at about 9:30 am. He got out of line at about 6:30 in the evening. I got into line sometime around 10 to 10:30 am and was out by like 12 something. While he was in line I checked out the con. I went to the gaming room. Where I saw an old favorite, ‘007 Golden Eye’ for the N64. That game was and still is a sick game. I have to say if they where to come out with a new version of it with just updated graphics it can without a dough become very popular agene. Then there where the regular games that you’d find at a con, Halo, Guitar hero, Rock band, DDR, Super smash brothers, Naruto, Bleach…
Then I went on to the Dealers room. OMG I have never in my life felt so pore. So much that I wanted, so much that I wanted. Oh I already say that. Well the point is that there was a mini anime memorabilia/archive/city everything. The place was packed u could not move very easily but it was still awesome. There was manga everywhere, enough posters to cover the building, materials for drawing and painting, and this year something that stood out to me was the cloths. There was even a dressing room thing going. Yea they where actually 3 showering canopies for camping but still it was a dressing room.
Then I went to the artist alley where I saw quite a few people from last year including Kilika the writer and artist of Blue and Blond. An online web comic that is (from what he told me) soon to be an animated series. Now I bring out this fact because as it so happens, last year I accidentally cosplayed as one of the characters in his comic. Dan is in a way the token black guy in the comic.
Now by this time I was ready for something to eat. This is an good part of the convention. Food is available close to the entrance as a catering like service. They offer Asian cuisine (AKA Chinese Food) what I think is very popular at an anime convention. Then there is the fact that the food court is a small walk away. There you can find much more that just Asian cuisine, lie fried rice, ramen, sushi, or any other of those dishes. You can also find burgers, pizza, chowder, and lots of other fine foods. BTW: I don’t really talk like that. I myself had sushi and a I also bough some for my friend Rich that was still on the line.
Now by the time that Rich got out of the line it was late and he had to go home but. He was not quite in the mood for walking after standing for hours. So we just went to the manga reading room and chilled for a little bit. Then he dad to go but I stayed longer.
To be honest I don’t actually remember what I did but to be honest I was tired by that time.
Day 2 Saturday: The day that I think was the most fun. To say the truth the highlight of the day was when me and my friend Lain (as he likes to be called), tormented the new line of people for registration. We used the different messages to let them know that they have been in line for a long long time. Such messages as ‘GOOD LUCK’, ‘SANITY LOST’, and ‘GO TO YOUR HAPPY PLACE’. Now the torment did not end there. Once they finally got their badges we where weighting at the exit with a sign that say ‘GOOD LUCK! MORE LINES AHEAD’. I have video of it but I need to edit it because it is ridiculously long.
I spent most of the day doing that but for the later times I spent it in the manga reading room. Then there was the second best thing of Saturday witch was the ‘Extreme Geek’. This was a panel that challenged the Geek status with questions that a true geek would know. Like Star Trek questions, history questions… Don’t be fooled they where not how should we say, normal questions. There where also some fun activities such as hot potato (I participated in that one), then there was this one that the contestants had to eat their way thru whip cream to get a blubbery. The catch was that there where small toy body parts mixed in. As it turns out they where competing for a toy that featured a small cute anime character that is about 12 or so in the submission position that u can put on or take of her panties. So we nicknamed the winner “Rapist”. Trust me there was a tone of fun stuff happening in that panel but it was 18+ so not that many people could be there yet even so the room was almost full.
Well that was the end of the night for me I was to tired and my voice was strained from all the screaming at Extreme Geek.
Day 3 Sunday: This day was not all that fun until the ending ceremonies. It was awesome funny. We got to see Deadfantacy 2 it is so sick.
Well that’s it really over all the con was fun. But there are a few things that can change. The main one being the line thing. That was just way too much. Oh and the gaming room I dint like the way that the tables where arranged, there was not much mobility available. But the good thing is that this time they put it in a bigger room.
Oh and yes I know my grammar is crap along with spelling but do look like I care. Ill fix it little by little. If u have comment don’t fear putting them up.
