For those of you who don’t know who Matt is, well in short his a class mate whom for some reason can still stand to hang out with me.
We where having a conversation at school with some of the other teachers (by the way this was a very lay back environment) when Matt tried to get a kid to behave. He told them to “stop talking” at witch point they did. This is where Matt brought up the point that it seems that people react less to “shut up”, the more informal way of telling someone to shut up. Than they do to “stop talking”. It seems that “shut up” like many other phrases has become mere words with no actual credibility. A better way to think of it is by thinking of how valley girls talk, “oh my god… shut up… you so bad…) and stuff like that. To many kids of today “shut up is just merely a way of saying “talk lower so that i can scream over you and people can hear me and not you”.
So basically the point that was brought up was that people seem to have a more offensive reaction to “stop talking” that they do to “shut up”. This is something that you can test out for yourself. Try it some time. But please don’t over use it. Or it to will become another “shut up”
