Microsoft Epic OS Fail
icon1 ronnyfry89 | icon2 post | icon4 02 15th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

As many of you know (those that keep up with it anyway) Microsoft has released beta versions of it new to come operating system (OS). This next one will be the second OS since XP (released 8 thats rite 8 years ago). Now as a geek I try my best to keep up with the news and no matter how much I wished it, it just dose not seem like good news will come any time soon. From what I have read windows 7 is off to a bit a “hmm” start. It is doing better than Vista but, yea its still getting its ass raped by XP. You don’t have to listen to me but I think you should listen to the guys that actually did all the testing. The image below is a screen grab from engadget. i used a screen grab in case the article is archived. But this is the link anyway. Windows 7 put up against Vista and XP in hardcore multicore benchmarks, XP wins - Engadget

There are multiple test going around and some are more extensive than others. But the results dont lie. Unless some one altered them. This next link is a summery that is EZ to read. Windows on multi core test results.

Automated Death
icon1 ronnyfry89 | icon2 post | icon4 11 23rd, 2008| icon3No Comments »

In an ever changing world, technology is king. The more you know about it the better you are off. Today’s top tech is the tech that kills. There are many innovations in the battle field. The sort that are the most popular are those that need no man to operate. Thats right autonomous killing machines. Machines that need only a general target specification and they will take that target down. With out hesitation, with much greater precision, and ultimately much faster and efficiently.

There is a business that (for as long as humans exist) will never die. It is a known fact that humans invest more money in war and weapons than many other things. I think the only other is tech and fashion. Well, probably not true but the point is that it is something that people invest in one way or another. This means that there for ever will be a market for it. because of this many companies seem to want to get in the weapons design business. Not that they will start making weapons but that they will see how their product can be modified for the battle field. For example Boeing. They make airplanes and jet engines for commercial purposes. During WWII they made military planes by modifying their passenger planes. Later in the future they actually build a jet fighter for the US army. I don’t remember who won the contract but the point is that they made something specifically for war. As airplanes go there are very few companies that are involved. Companies that specialize in guns is a different story.

For the most part they can pump stuff out like candy. This is because man has been making guns for a very long time and it has the largest killing streak. There have been many innovations over time as to gun design and production. There have been 3 major innovations that made the gun the ultimate killing machine. The first of which was the rifling of the gun barrels. This is where spiral groves where mad in the barrel so that the bullet is given a spin. This spin makes it so that unequal masses in the bullet spin around so that it reduces the bullet curve. Then there was the second innovation but this time to the bullet. The shape of the bullet went from a ball (used in muskets and stuff like that) to conical. This Made the bullet more aerodynamic and in turn more speed and distance. Then the last major innovation was the cartridge. This made it so that the bullet and the gun powder was now one unit. This is very important because it made them much more reliable because the gun powder would no longer get wet and not fire. This innovation is also very important because it made loading guns faster. MUCH FASTER. True that guns are small and can only kill a few people at a time. Well thats were bombs come in.

Explosives are big in the world of the military. Explosives have grown over the years from simple accumulation of gun powder to complex explosive polymers that are many times more powerful than gun powder. One of the most popular explosives is trinitrotoluene (TNT for short). This stuff was used with no restraint. It became most notorious in the mining industry. The popularity did not stop there. Due to the low regulations of the stuff it became popular with criminals. Eventually TNT became a unit of measure for future explosives. This is most distinct in nuclear weapons. With the use of tons of TNT to measure the strength of nuclear bombs. Yea sure nukes are big and all that stuff but to say the truth they have only been around for a short time compared to the gun. Then there is also the fact that they have only really been used twice for actual war purposes. They have since become a very popular. In fact so popular that now in days the hardest thing about making one is getting the explosive material. This was demonstrated in a 1986 movie “The Manhattan Project”. Where a teenager built a nuclear bomb in his garage. Cool movie but a few errors hear and there.

Technology comes into play mainly in the area of making these weapons more deadly by removing the human aspect. Making weapons autonomous is still one of the most sought after innovations around. Airplanes and other air crafts can be made autonomous with greater ease than many other vehicles because they don’t have to worry about that many obstacles. Helicopters are a different story. Although they are not capable of doing air dog fights they are still quite useful to reduce the strain on a pilot from a long flight. There has been on plane on the planet that could only be flown by computer alone, not even remote control. This plane was ridiculously fast. the speed of the plane created G forces greater than that considered safe for humans. It was so fast that using radio control was out of the question because the signals would not have the response time needed to control the plane. These planes would be flown for a few minutes at top speed and then slow down so that the control can then be taken over from base command.

Guns as to this date are still quite manual due to the simplicity of the weapon. But future guns are sporting a microchip that can tell who is holding the gun. This a cool because it will make it so that unauthorized users can not operate the weapon (this will be hacked in days just you watch). They have also implemented a system where the bullets no longer have to be stacked in a magazine to them be loaded into the firing chamber. They are actually placed in the barrel one behind the other. They are ignited using an electrical pules, rather that a striking mechanism. They are trying to make it so that they can use conventional bullets as well so that the transition from old is not so hard. They have also been able to incorporate small electronic circuits in the actual bullet themselves. This gives a bullet a few extra capabilities like detonation at a certain range.

Bombs have also been technologically advanced. They now carry small cameras that are used to guide the missile for a short distance. Thats just for the short to medium range bombs. The long range bombs are guided by a few more sophisticated systems. There are bombs that are guided by a simple laser pointer. But for that a soldier would have to be near by to point at the target. The more sophisticated systems have GPS that using satellites in orbit can guide itself to the predetermined destination to with in a few feet. Using this system they can also have the bomb detonate at a predetermined height. This is innovative because the use of bombers is no longer needed the bomb is it’s deliverer.

Computers now in days are really powerful and people themselves are able to use them to make robotic apparatuses. There are high school students making robots that are controlled by a computer. Using simple C++ programing language. The internet makes this task that much simpler by providing the knowledge that is needed to make all these things. Not to mention the support from other enthusiasts. The YouTube video that inspired me to write this post is from a person that took his know how in electronics and the know how of others to make an automated gun torrent. Although his is for recreation use it is not hard for some one to modify it so that it works with a real gun. Then add a few more parameters as to what to shoot or not shoot, then make it bigger and more durable and its all set.

Considering how long human history is and how it has for ever been involved in war and death, it is no wonder why we find it so simple to create something that can kill rather than something that can save lives. I am not saying that people are not doing their part in that area its just that we don’t do as much as in the area of death. The point is that I have some good ideas for weapons of death.

These ideas are for the most part not new to the wold of science fiction. The problem is that people have this notion of weapons that use some sort of electrical power. What the fuck is up with that. If there is some thing that sci-fi has taught us is that energy weapons can be deflected. What ever happened to the notion that bigger is better? I talking (typing) the truth. People are all into this high tech weaponry stuff and the thing is why fix something that is not broken. Lets forget about the special doodads that we keep trying to implement. I say find a way to shove more energy into a smaller space and its all good. For example, large caliper fire arms. Like the Smith & Wesson Model 500, Desert eagle, and the Barret 82A1 (M107) or Accuracy International’s AS50. These are guns that fire a .50 caliber bullet. Normally these guns are just too much for the human body to handle.

Thats where i come in. If we can have machines take care of all the heavy work why stay in the box. Lets make giant walking tanks (mechs) that will fire large (bullshit large) caliber rounds. All i need is a good understanding on how to use SolidWorks (fabulous CAD program) and ill have you a prototype in a year. Then to top it off have like 4 different variants. One will be heavy and chuck full of fire power. Another would be stealthy and wicked fast. The other would be… Well i dont know but the point is that there will be things that they will all have in common. Things like the ability to go under water, flight is a must, and best of all remote control.

I know what your thinking. “Ah… dude that idea has been taken… its already been thought of… it’s all over cartoons and stuff” Bla bla bla bla… ok cool but has it been actually constructed? There have been some attempts at this but with shit results. Link to a vid. I assure you that some thing better can be accomplished with time and actual thinking. Not just a “Hey lets build some thing today” sort of scenario.

I would start just tossing my ideas up on the blog but that would be dangerous. Not to you. I mean me, because then people could take my shit and i am sorry but this is one thing i wont be sharing. ITS ALL MINE. ALL MINE I TELL YA. MUA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Multi Screen

Multi screen set ups are cool and no one can say no to that. Ok not true there are people that say there is no point. But those people are usually a bit set on what they do on a computer. I on the other hand speech for the people that their life is based off of the computer. No i am not talking about those uber geeks that play WOWC 24/7. I am talking for those that do businesses and computer administration, and cant forget the designers and modelers (CAD not fashion). Those people would find much more use of multiple screens because that way they don’t need to sift papers and stuff. I now have a 3 screen set up that I am happy with (because it was basically free). It cost me some gas getting one screen and a power supply to mod onto a screen that had a burned out one.

No my set up is nothing to compete with some beast of set ups out there. It is however a bragable thing to my friends that dont ^_^

From left to rite: Samsung SyncMaster 710T, Dell UltraSharp 1800FP, Dell 1500FP

From left to rite: Samsung SyncMaster 710T, Dell UltraSharp 1800FP, Dell 1500FP

Some of the crazy set ups that some on of my or grander statues would have are as follow:

Cool gaming 4 screen set up. Did u see the 4th? It’s a bit of a hider but its there.
Even bigger gaming set ups. So many screens….
The more lay back office guys: site1, site2, site3

Now as good as all of these look there is one and only one that is perfect for me. Is the 9X Multimedia
X-Top 30-screen triple row scalable ergonomic Multi-Monitor display solution

But I will settle for the Zenview Atlas 20 Pro

Mother Time Keeper
icon1 ronnyfry89 | icon2 post | icon4 09 4th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Mother Time Keeper is the name I have given to a theoretical program that keeps time in a stop watch sor of manner. Yes I know that there are hundreds of programs that do somthing similar to this. The thing that I am making different is how it functions. I am not sure if the other programs out there do the same thing but what ever. Well I thought about this last night as I try go to sleep. I wok up in the middle of the night and wrote a reminder in my pocket not pad.

The program will be a multy platform application that rather than actually having a timer like fucktion where you stop and start and it has to be on to keep time, this application would actually keep track of the time and date of when you press the start, stop, or pause button. From that it has the ability to then calculate the time and then display it in a stop watch like display. This means that the program dose not need to be running all the time. Also because it is merely just a recording of when a click happened it is also possible to simply keep a file that is just a table of recorded clicks. Making it posible to view the timer any ware, on multiple platforms or even devices.

The name I though of is because of the giant father time clocks. The problem with father time clocks is that they are known for just keeping time of the current time. Thats boring any clock can do that. On the other hand if there was a mother time clock then she would be able to keep time of multiple events and stuff. Also not to sound sexist or anything but women do that shit with ought even trying. So why not give credit where credit is due. Yea but seriously how the do women keep track of this shit?

Fall cleaning
icon1 ronnyfry89 | icon2 post | icon4 08 30th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

We have all heard of spring cleaning rite. Well fall cleaning is the same thing just different time of year. I decided that since I have been on a really lazy summer and have left my room a junk yard, I should clean it up. Well e z say, not so e z done.

My room is a cluster of lots and lots of small computer parts and some big parts. The big thinks are mostly just complete units. The biggest thing in the room are things like a laser printer that I have had for the past 2 years thinking I can get it fixed with ought paying large mula. There are 2 other ink-jet printers that are floating around, other than the one that I regularly use (just craped out on me a week ago >.< ) and one of them is missing the power adapter (fucking proprietary crap) and the other, well I dont know I haven’t touched it (since april). Then there are 2 scanners, one I have tested and all it gives me is black scans. The other I haven’t touched because it uses a parallel port and thats too fucking old for me. Not as in it’s before my time, as in we should move the fuck away from it, I don’t want to see anymore mother boards with this shit. Its a waist of space and all that good stuff (same with serial ports/DB9). Anyway back to the stuff.

I also have a giant liquid cooling unit that I have never used because I am too cheep to buy the cooling blocks for the CPU, north bridge, RAM, and the hard drives. Hay if you knew the prices on those fucking things you would be like “hu?… no way”. Then there is this 1U server that I could never get to work because it uses a proprietary daisy chain KVM thing (fucking proprietary crap) that cost $100 something dollars. Last but not least of the big things I have is a CRT monitor. This thing can only go to 1024×768 but this shit is durable. I can’t remember how many times have punched, slapped, and hurled the dam thing (out of frustration) and it still works like new. If I was to do that to my LCD (free because the power inverter was broken, so I modded an ATX power supply to it :)) it would go to shit. Well non the less I have thousands of small miscellanies items that I need to find a home for, toss away, sell or trade, or just put it in the “future shit to blow up” pile.

This is going to take me some time to get done with school starting and all but eh no big. I will report in later when i am done or just decide to set the place on fire.

Diaries?
icon1 ronnyfry89 | icon2 post | icon4 04 11th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Diary is simply another word for records. But it is most often associated to a personal phonographic record keeping. Usually day by day, and traditionally on paper media. Often time the records are just that records but they can also have a form of self expression, away to get things out because it makes you feel good or something. This method of “self counsellings” is most often practiced by the females. Men do practice this as well except they call it a journal because diary is too girlie, and they most often don’t actually write about how they feel. They most likely write what happened and then what they plan to do.

The diary has changed over the years (personal term). It has moved on from the had cover book with hundreds of blank pages, and the occasional little five sent look that never actually worked. They where elaborate at times with fun designs, stickers, material, and even odors, and best of all tangible. Meaning that any one could pick it up and have a sense that something is there. That also meant that any one could pick it up and read it (unless you wrote in code). So it was a very unsecured system (unless you rote in code) that any one could used to black mail you, make fun of you or just flat out torment the living crap out of you. This was often done by those closest to you (little brothers, big brothers) but not to cause harm just to play.

The computer and the internet give the diary a whole new meaning. Now not only can you rite infinite amount of stuff about yourself and what you see around your day to day life, but you can also share it with others (or not). You can share it with a picture or a video. Hell your diary can be a bunch of video entries and shared over the internet for the world to see, or just a select few, or just you. The possibilities are endless. The formats rang from a web page about your projects that you do at home, to a blog (made and official word in 1999) witch is defined in Websters Dictionary as “a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer”. Blogs are one of the most popular because they are so simple yet can do so much.

Now I am not saying that digital is the ultimate way to go because they both have their pros and cons.
While the digital diary is robust it also has one main flaw, you need a computer to make entries. This dose not sound like a big deal but when you think about it can really be an inconvenience. Lets just that you really want to ad an entry but your no ware near a computer your going to have to hold on till then. Sure thats not a big deal because you can just wait till you get home, but what if your out of the country, or even if you have asses to a computer from far away. Sure many if these issues can be resolved by having it on the internet and all you would need is any computer. Even the computer issue is to be no more because phones are becoming more and more capable so I guess this isnt really an issue. Now the other con to electronic diaries is that you cant really hold an electronic page. That some how takes away from the human feel aspect to it. Now I am not saying that this is something that every one needs its just something that some people look for (I am not one of those).

Now I have written a shit load about what can be a touchy touchy feli subject, but the truth is I have a diary that I share with every one, that comes to the site, and I though I should just say a little bit about what I think about that. Hence the purpose of the site. Oh and I was bored. :)

Anime Boston 2008

Well the week end of March 21-23 was Anime Boston 08. Now for those who don’t know, Anime Boston is the only convention in the Boston area dedicated specifically to anime. Hence it’s name. Now it’s a 3 day event if u dint catch that. So that’s how I am going to describe it. By day. Links will be at the end.

Day 1 Friday: Well the first thing that stood out was the fact that the line for registration was ridiculously long. The pre-registration line was also long but it moved much faster. Now there is also the fact that on the previous day any one that pre-registered could have gone and did the registration then. Now my total time in the line was about 2 hours to two and a half. Now that may seem like allot but compared to the registration line it was nothing. To better understand what I am talking about let me give u an example. My friend Rich (nick name) whom did not pre-register was in line at about 9:30 am. He got out of line at about 6:30 in the evening. I got into line sometime around 10 to 10:30 am and was out by like 12 something. While he was in line I checked out the con. I went to the gaming room. Where I saw an old favorite, ‘007 Golden Eye’ for the N64. That game was and still is a sick game. I have to say if they where to come out with a new version of it with just updated graphics it can without a dough become very popular agene. Then there where the regular games that you’d find at a con, Halo, Guitar hero, Rock band, DDR, Super smash brothers, Naruto, Bleach…

Then I went on to the Dealers room. OMG I have never in my life felt so pore. So much that I wanted, so much that I wanted. Oh I already say that. Well the point is that there was a mini anime memorabilia/archive/city everything. The place was packed u could not move very easily but it was still awesome. There was manga everywhere, enough posters to cover the building, materials for drawing and painting, and this year something that stood out to me was the cloths. There was even a dressing room thing going. Yea they where actually 3 showering canopies for camping but still it was a dressing room.

Then I went to the artist alley where I saw quite a few people from last year including Kilika the writer and artist of Blue and Blond. An online web comic that is (from what he told me) soon to be an animated series. Now I bring out this fact because as it so happens, last year I accidentally cosplayed as one of the characters in his comic. Dan is in a way the token black guy in the comic.

Now by this time I was ready for something to eat. This is an good part of the convention. Food is available close to the entrance as a catering like service. They offer Asian cuisine (AKA Chinese Food) what I think is very popular at an anime convention. Then there is the fact that the food court is a small walk away. There you can find much more that just Asian cuisine, lie fried rice, ramen, sushi, or any other of those dishes. You can also find burgers, pizza, chowder, and lots of other fine foods. BTW: I don’t really talk like that. I myself had sushi and a I also bough some for my friend Rich that was still on the line.

Now by the time that Rich got out of the line it was late and he had to go home but. He was not quite in the mood for walking after standing for hours. So we just went to the manga reading room and chilled for a little bit. Then he dad to go but I stayed longer.

To be honest I don’t actually remember what I did but to be honest I was tired by that time.

Day 2 Saturday: The day that I think was the most fun. To say the truth the highlight of the day was when me and my friend Lain (as he likes to be called), tormented the new line of people for registration. We used the different messages to let them know that they have been in line for a long long time. Such messages as ‘GOOD LUCK’, ‘SANITY LOST’, and ‘GO TO YOUR HAPPY PLACE’. Now the torment did not end there. Once they finally got their badges we where weighting at the exit with a sign that say ‘GOOD LUCK! MORE LINES AHEAD’. I have video of it but I need to edit it because it is ridiculously long.

I spent most of the day doing that but for the later times I spent it in the manga reading room. Then there was the second best thing of Saturday witch was the ‘Extreme Geek’. This was a panel that challenged the Geek status with questions that a true geek would know. Like Star Trek questions, history questions… Don’t be fooled they where not how should we say, normal questions. There where also some fun activities such as hot potato (I participated in that one), then there was this one that the contestants had to eat their way thru whip cream to get a blubbery. The catch was that there where small toy body parts mixed in. As it turns out they where competing for a toy that featured a small cute anime character that is about 12 or so in the submission position that u can put on or take of her panties. So we nicknamed the winner “Rapist”. Trust me there was a tone of fun stuff happening in that panel but it was 18+ so not that many people could be there yet even so the room was almost full.

Well that was the end of the night for me I was to tired and my voice was strained from all the screaming at Extreme Geek.

Day 3 Sunday: This day was not all that fun until the ending ceremonies. It was awesome funny. We got to see Deadfantacy 2 it is so sick.

Well that’s it really over all the con was fun. But there are a few things that can change. The main one being the line thing. That was just way too much. Oh and the gaming room I dint like the way that the tables where arranged, there was not much mobility available. But the good thing is that this time they put it in a bigger room.

Oh and yes I know my grammar is crap along with spelling but do look like I care. Ill fix it little by little. If u have comment don’t fear putting them up.
